Phantom Artists
in the News

...Longtime penciller for the Phantom, George Olesen and his lovely wife, Rigmor were the subject of a newspaper article in Denmark on July 21. The name of the newspaper is ARHUS ONSDAG. Their color picture graced the first page and the piece written about them was a nice informative feature that detailed George's work with the strip while he and Rigmor were vacationing there...

"...The world famous comic strip figure who makes mature men dream about their hero is on new, awesome adventures. The man with the black mask experiences a little of everything, but almost always turns out the winner. His exciting exploits are flown to USA via FedEx from where they are sent to the rest of the world."

Bill Lignante, illustrator for many Gold Key Phantom comics was the cover subject for San Diego Lawyer magazine.

Bill, a longtime supporter of FOTP, was profiled for the extensive world famous courtroom art he did for ABC, but, was also cited for his contribution to the Phantom and kindly mentioned Friends of the Phantom.

In fact, had he never stepped into a courtroom, Lignante would still be famous for the comic strips he wrote and illustrated. For many years he drew The Phantom, a masked marvel who once equalled Superman and Batman in popularity. He still gets mail from Phantom fanatics and was recently featured in "Friends of the Phantom".

During his trip to Catawissa, daily Phantom artist, Keith Williams was featured on the front page of the Bloomsburg Morning Press. The paper has been carrying the Phantom for decades, so readers found his local appearance quite newsworthy.

"To meet the man who created something like the Phantom...that was mind boggling in itself," Williams said. Falk gave Williams a few pencil drawings and told him to ink them.

"He liked what I did and he hired me," Williams said. "I was actually surprised at how easy it was."
