The following is an excerpt from a FOTP interview with Fernando:
How long have you been working
in comics?
I began to publish in fanzines in
1992. My first profesional comic was published in 1998; and I've been working
for the U.S. since 2000.
When is your birthday?
October 16.
How would you describe your approach
to laying out and inking a story?
After to read the script, I do little
storyboards of the pages; if I work with a full script, I do it of 5 pages
each time or depending on the size of the scene. Next, I look forward references
in photography books or internet for the scene: backgrounds, characters,
clothes... Next, I begin to draw, first, I first sketch on blue pencil and
then I do finishes on black pencil, It takes about 6-8 hours per page. For
the inking I use one fountain-pen, fine brushes, pen-nibs and marking pens,
It takes about 5-6 hours.
